This sculpted tray is made from highly figured batik mango — a variety prized for its striking patterning and swirling colouration. The name “batik” refers to the way the natural fungal spalting and mineral streaking mimic the traditional wax-resist dyeing technique found across Indonesia. No two pieces ever form alike, and batik mango is exceptionally rare in larger, fault-free sections.
The tray has been delicately shaped to curve upward at all four corners, giving it an elegant modern profile that complements the organic complexity of the grain. Light catches the subtle chatoyance within the fibres, shifting between honey, bronze and warm grey tones as you view it from different angles.
Hand-turned and finished for my YouTube channel, and signed on the base. Suitable as a functional display tray or as a sculptural centrepiece for contemporary interiors.
Approx. 29.5 cm × 20 cm × 5 cm
(11⅝″ × 7⅞″ × 2″)
Measured at widest points
