This sculptural bowl is turned from South American Greenheart — a timber renowned for its exceptional density, durability and rich chocolate colouring. Traditionally used for shipbuilding and marine piling due to its incredible strength, Greenheart is rarely encountered in fine turning as it is extremely hard on tools and unforgiving to work.
The bowl’s form is sleek and contemporary, with a flattened rim tapering into a gentle hollow that displays the wood’s tight grain and natural fleck. When light passes over the surface, the fibres reveal waves of olive-brown, amber, and deep cocoa tones. The underside carries the same refined profile and is signed for authenticity.
Created for my YouTube channel as part of a series exploring the challenges of exotic hardwoods. This is a functional centrepiece that suits modern interiors just as well as it stands as a sculptural collectible.
