Hand turned from a beautifully spalted piece of beech, this unusual winged bowl has an incredible mixture of natural colours and markings running throughout the timber.
The central bowl has been turned while retaining the surrounding square section of the original blank, creating four distinctive wings. This gives the piece a striking sculptural shape while allowing far more of the remarkable spalting to remain on display.
Creams, warm browns, reddish tones and dark spalt lines flow across both the bowl and wings, with the pattern continuing around the underside. The natural variations within the timber mean there is something different to see from almost every angle.
A particularly unusual piece that works just as well as a decorative display piece as it does as a shallow bowl.
